Channel #PinkFloyd and its Policies

A few common sense rules are in place in order to maintain a comfortable and enjoyable environment for everyone. Since children can and do access the channel, we must try to keep our chat room “clean” while we discuss the greatest band in the history of rock. Behavior that does not promote a friendly and comfortable chat environment is discouraged.

The language spoken in #PinkFloyd is English. If you do not know any English, then realize that others in the chat room may not understand you (and you probably are not able to read this anyway!). Though this is not the best way, you may try using the website http://babelfish.altavista.com to translate for you.

In order to enjoy a high-quality chat environment, please respect our
Channel Rules:

1. Harassment of visitors or operators / Trolling / Offensive & vulgar language / Racism, discrimination, or sexual depravity of any kind / Impersonation of other users; are prohibited in the channel.

Example: Repeated or abnormal use of swear words - Swear kicks are left up to the Op's judgment; Bots automatically kick/ban on certain words.
Trolling involves deliberately trying to anger people or cause trouble, such as saying "Pink Floyd sucks."
Impersonation includes, but is not limited to, using similar nicks or otherwise pretending to be another user.

2. Flooding (text, nick-changing, or join floods) / Spamming & Unsolicited Advertising; are prohibited in the channel.

Example: Posting 10 lines in 5 seconds is considered flooding. Repeated postings of the same or similar message is also flooding.
Spamming & Advertising include, but are not limited to, posting your web address or channels other than #PinkFloyd on Webnet in an attempt to bring users to them. If you find an interesting link that you wish to share with the channel, ask permission to post it first.
All of the above are also prohibited by WebChat's network policies, who may decide to take further action against this behavior.

3. Excessive use of color, bold letters, CAPS, 1337 5p33k ("leet speak"), or script playing are prohibited in the channel (unless stated in the Topic that it is allowed).

Example: Frequent use of the above is not tolerated in the chat room. This is a chat room for Pink Floyd, not a "hax0r" room.
If an operator wants to let visitors play around (allowing excessive use of the above, along with other fun script toys), "Script Night" should be added to the topic. The operator placing this in the topic should take it away again when leaving or when it is enough. If the operator gets disconnected, other operators in the channel may either set a new topic with "Script Night" or take it away altogether.

Exception: MP3 Player scripts are always allowed as long as they are not longer than about "one line" of text on the chat screen.

4. Idle users must indicate their away status when they are away from the channel, or risk getting kicked (applies to non-Ops only).*

Being Idle means remaining in the channel while being inactive for a period of time.

* Users are required to use an away indicator in their nick when they are going to be away from the channel but not log off. Ex: Change from Nick to Nick-away. (Users often think you are ignoring them if you do not indicate your away status.) Typing /nick NewNameHere will change your nick.

5. Respect Network Policies.

Our chat channel is hosted on the WebChat Network. You are responsible for complying with their policies. For more information, click here.

We have several friendly channel Operators (a.k.a. "Ops") that come to the channel on a regular basis. Operators have the @ symbol next to their name. Ops are channel managers who monitor the chat and enforce the channel rules. The Ops have the right to remove anyone from the channel at their discretion. Chatters with the + symbol next to their name are channel Helpers (a.k.a. "voiced" or VOps). VOps help teach chatters about the channel rules, IRC commands, and visit the channel regularly. Feel free to ask the Ops and VOps for help anytime.

Bots are sometimes present in the channel. A bot is a software program, not a person, that performs helpful tasks. These tasks may include general channel management in the absence of live Ops, logging statistics, or games. Our bots usually appear as Ops with the @ symbol by their names. Operator bots are to be treated with the same respect as human operators. View the members page to see who are bots and who are real people. Only Ops and other members granted permission by the Ops may run bots in the channel (ask first if you want to run a bot). Unauthorized bots and their owners will be kicked and/or banned as necessary.

Activity may seem slow at times in the channel. Please be patient and do not be discouraged – you are not being ignored. Some people in the chat room are doing other things at the same time so they may be slow to respond. People log in and out of the room all the time so just wait around a bit and eventually someone will join you.

Failure to follow the Channel Rules may result in a warning, kick, temporary ban, or permanent ban from the channel. More serious matters will be reported to the WebChat Network (where our channel is hosted), who may take further action.

There are no age restrictions in #PinkFloyd; anyone from any age group can chat in our channel. The channel is usually monitored by our Operators. Contact us at webmaster@pinkfloydchat.net if you have any questions or comments.

Have a nice chat and enjoy!
